Man Alleges Sheriff's Deputies Beat Him Unconscious | Then Falsified Reports

Ricardo Hernandez was a backseat passenger in a stolen car with his friends when Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him on May 5, 2018.

The federal lawsuit Hernandez filed alleges Deputy Brandon Battles placed him in a "carotid hold" — a type of neck restraint — until Hernandez lost consciousness and then struck him in the head and neck six times with his flashlight.
